Role and Involvement

Before founding MWA+D, Maxwell was the Associate and Lead Project Architect on a substantial contemporary new-build residence. The project featured a triple-storey basement, ancillary estate buildings, extensive landscaping, and the integration of external artwork installations. Maxwell had a central role in all RIBA Work Stages 0 to 7, overseeing the project from initial strategic definition through to post-occupancy.

Maxwell was the Lead Project Architect on a fully refurbishment of a two-storey penthouse apartment in London. He was actively involved throughout all RIBA Work Stages 0 to 7, overseeing the project from initial strategic definition through to post-occupancy.

Refurbishment and New Build Swimming Pool Basement Complex to an Grade Listed I Historical House in London

Maxwell was the Project Architect on the full refurbishment of a Grade I listed residence, alongside the design and delivery of a new-build basement swimming pool complex with a sunken garden and a contemporary guest house. He was actively involved throughout RIBA Stages 3 to 6, overseeing the project from detailed design through to on-site construction. Maxwell's main role was the coordinating both the sensitive restoration of the historic fabric and the delivery of high-spec modern additions, ensuring seamless integration between the old and new elements.

Maxwell was the Lead Project Architect for the full refurbishment of a Grade II* listed country house, which included the addition of a new-build basement and extensive landscaping. He was actively involved throughout all RIBA Work Stages (0–7), overseeing the project from initial strategic definition through to post-occupancy. His responsibilities included consultant coordination, and delivering high-quality outcomes on a complex, conservation-led scheme.

Maxwell Ward has been a practicing architect since 2005, with extensive experience across a wide range of sectors, including historic conservation, education, retail, commercial, healthcare, and both affordable and high-end residential developments. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a meticulous, design-led approach to every project.

Maxwell has specialised in high-end, bespoke residential architecture, leading projects ranging in value from £300,000 to over £100 million. His portfolio demonstrates a refined sensitivity to detailing, materiality, and project delivery to the highest standards.

In addition to his role as lead architect across all RIBA work stages, Maxwell has collaborated closely with renowned creatives and designers on interior design, landscape design, lighting design, and art installations. His ability to contribute across many disciplines enriches the holistic design narrative of each project.

Maxwell’s experience working within large, multidisciplinary teams is a significant asset. His core strengths lie in the coordination and management of consultants, and in delivering design excellence from concept to completion. He often serves as Contract Administrator, ensuring the highest standards throughout every stage of construction. Maxwell has consistently led complex projects from inception through delivery, maintaining a hands-on approach to achieve outstanding outcomes.
