MWA+D has been commissioned to carry out a feasibility study and planning submission for the conversion of a former chapel into a private residence. As part of the proposal, a new two-storey side extension is planned to enhance the building’s functionality. Additionally, a sunken garden is proposed at the rear and along the south side of the main structure.
We have completed initial volumetric studies to explore the optimal use of space while maintaining the integrity and expression of the original chapel form. MWA+D remains conscious of the challenges associated with chapel and church conversions, and we are committed to preserving the architectural character and fenestration of the building’s façades.

MWA+D has recently been engaged to design a new rear extension and to undertake an interior refurbishment of a 1930s semi-detached house in Clapham Common. Following the initial outline design assessment and discussions with the client, our design approach has been to respect the architectural typology of the building. The form of the rear extension is being developed in response to the traditional bay windows that are a characteristic feature of the surrounding houses and the local area.
