This project comprises of a new-build house with a full basement level, located within a large private garden setting, alongside the complete refurbishment and modernisation of an existing mews house. The project seamlessly integrates the new house building with sensitive restoration, maximizing space, light, and functionality while preserving the character of the existing mews house.
The new house has been configured as a brick-built volume with a rendered finish, capped by a pitched slate roof that echoes the vernacular forms of the existing mews house. A restrained material palette and carefully proportioned openings ensure continuity with the existing built fabric, while subtle contemporary detailing allows the new addition to be read as both complementary and distinct. The spatial arrangement is centred around a private courtyard garden, conceived as a unifying element that links old and new.
Below ground, a fully excavated basement accommodates secondary functions including utility, storage, and a gym. These spaces are arranged to maximise usability and connectivity while preserving the clarity of the above-ground plan.
Internally, the architecture is enriched through a series of bespoke interventions developed in close collaboration with the client. Custom joinery, tactile materials, and tailored finishes articulate each space with a high degree of craft, resulting in an interior that is deeply personal to the client.
